The Alytus-Rochester Sister Cities Committee has undertaken numerous projects in the last ten years which have fostered the bonds of friendship between the people of both cities. Recent past projects include:
September 2019: The Alytus-Rochester Sister Cities 10th Anniversary Celebration held in Rochester, NY. Nerijus Cesiulis, the Mayor of Alytus, and Jurgita Sukeviciene, the Vice Mayor of Alytus, traveled from Lithuania to help commemorate the occasion.
June 2018: Concert honoring Lithuania’s Freedom Fighters held in Rochester, NY. Juozas Jakavonis, one of the last living freedom fighters was in attendance, spoke and was honored at the event. Liudas Mikalauskas, soloist with Lithuania’s National Opera and Ballet Theatre performed.
May 2018: Essay contest with students from the Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas High School in Alytus, Lithuania. Students were challenged to write an essay describing their perspective on what service and sacrifice to country mean to them. Three winners were selected from submitted essays and awarded cash prizes.
